Regan MacNeil is the daughter of famous actress Chris MacNeil.

The Exorcist

Background

In The Exorcist, Regan is living with her now single famous actress mom in Georgetown. Regan a free spirited and kind 12 year old girl. While in Georgetown, Regan finds an Ouija board game in the basement. When her mom finds it, and becomes interested on how it works, Regan tells her she's made contact with someone she identifies as Captain Howdy ( unfortunately, this is the demon, Pazuzu, who as taken residency in Regan's house and plans to possess her ).

Possession

Soon after, Regan begins to act strangley. Once at a party her mom is holding at the house, Regan warns s guest that he is "gonna die up there", then urinates on the floor. After cleaning her up, and putting her back to bed, Regan asks her mom whats wrong with her. Her mom tells her to just take her pills and she will be fine. However, as her mom head back downstairs, a loud crash comes from Regan's bedroom and a terrible scream is heard from the little girl. Chris enters Regan's room, and finds the bed shaking unstoppably. Regan is taken to many doctors to have many tests, some proving painful. However, Regan begins to change violenty, striking anyone within reach. On one day, Chris leaves to have the tests results done on Regan. Nothing is found worng. Chris returns home to find out that the driecter of the movie she is staring it, Burke Dennings, was found dead at the bottom of a flight stairs outside the house. Police think Bruke was throw from Regan's bedroom window. Doctors tell Chris to have an exorcism performed on Regan, despited the fact Chris and Regan have no beliefs. Chris soon finds her daughter masturbating with a crucifix, and her daughter speaking in both Denning´s and a demonic voice , and Chris learns that doctors may be right. After this, Regan is restrained to her bed to prevent her from harming herself or others. At this point, the demon Pazuzu as taken full control over Regan.

Exorcism

Chris gets a priest and psychiatrist, Damien Karras (who is struggling with his own faith), to come look at Regan. Karras refuses to believe that a possession has taken place, as he as seen this kind of thing many times before, and observation is still the way to go. However, Karras believes that a exorcism might be needed after all, after he records a now fully possessed Regan speaking english backwards (something Regan does not know). Karras is called to the MacNeil`s home again for an emergency on Regan. He sees the words: "Help me!" scratched on Regan's stomach from the inside in Regans handwriting. Father Lankester Merrin (who has faced Pazuzu before), is called to Georgetown to help Karras perform the exorcism. The exorcism tires both priests. Merrin dies of a heart attack. Karras becomes furious with the demon, and challenges it to enter him. It does so hoping to kill Regan. But, Karras is able to gain enough control to throw himself from Regan's window and die, casting the demon away from his body and unabling it to possess her again for a long time. Regan is then restored to full health, and does not seem to remember what has happened to her. Chris and Regan decide to move. Regan meets Father Joseph Dyer (a friend of Karras) before leaving. Regan looks at his collar, and gently kisses him on the cheek, thanking him for saving her (this is probably knowing that Regan does remember her possession). Chris and Regan then move, trying to leave the past behind.

Exorcist 2: The Heretic

A new beginning

Regan is now 16 years old and is living in New York, staying with guardian Sharon Spencer. Regan claims to not remember her possession that happened 4 years ago. Regan undergoes counciling sections about her time in Washington D.C., which Regan does claim she only remembers being very sick and having nightmares. A priest, Father Lamont, comes to the center to question Regan about Father Merrin's death. Regan begins to have visions of Pazuzu's past poessesstion, a boy in Africa that was poessessed. And Father Merrin was the one who saved him ( this was Marrin's first encounter with Pazuzu ). Regan heals a girl with autistic, and learns she has pyich healing powers ( this was the reason why Pazuzu possessed her ). Lamont and Regan soon return to the old house in Georgetown. Where they meet Pazuzu ( in a doppleganer of Regan ). Regan does manage to defent Pazuzu, as Lament pulls the heart out of the dopperganer. Regan and Lamont walk away in peace, leaving the past behind.

The Exorcist 3:

Regan does not appear in The Exorcist 3, but is meantion by the Gemini ( possessing a Father Karras ). It is said that Pazuzu was angry at being thrown out of Regan , and put the Gemini killer's spirit in Father Karras ( as Karras was dying from saving Regan 15 years earlier by forcing Pazuzu to enter him ) as revenge. Regan is never seen in the Exorcist 3 and her locations and age is unkonwn. This film took place 15 years after The Exorcist ( ingnoring the events of The Exorcist 2: The Heritic ), which now possible states that Regan is now a young adult.
